ModuSpec geared up its expertise by providing two seasoned Senior Surveyors, for a comprehensive full condition survey and the Ready to Drill Integration Test (RDIT) on the COSL Hai Yang Shi You (HYSY) 936 Jack-up in Mexico.

MR ModuSpec recently successfully completed a rig inspection in the Gulf of Mexico. ModuSpec geared up its expertise by providing Joe Bragg and John King, two seasoned Senior Surveyors, for a comprehensive full condition survey and the Ready to Drill Integration Test (RDIT) on the COSL Hai Yang Shi You (HYSY) 936 Jack-up in Mexico.

COSL Hai Yang Shi You (HYSY) 936

The 'Ready to Drill' survey is a component of ModuSpec' inspection services and can be performed immediately following the customized condition survey. It examines the drilling components' proper installation, functional performance, load capacity, and endurance. Although not simulating full loading, it closely replicates actual drilling conditions.

The testing on HYSY 936 was carried out in three (3) phases:

Phase 1
Endurance – Integration testing

  • Step 1 Prep and initial warm up (1 hour)
  • Step 2 Further warm up and close observation (1 hour)
  • Step 3 Further warm up and close observation (1 hour)
  • Step 4 Commence Endurance testing (12 hours)

Phase 2
Test of Power Management system (1 hour)

Phase 3
Test of ESD and Emergency generator/switchboard (1 hour)

The primary goal is to identify weaknesses and potential failures that could impact drilling operations and the safety on the rig, achieved by analysing the acquired test data against equipment specifications and technical requirements.

ModuSpec recognizes the continuous operational nature of drilling units, where equipment downtime due to maintenance can occur. Therefore, the RDIT evaluates system redundancy to ensure safe and reliable drilling operations even during equipment downtime. Emergency scenarios are also tested to ensure integrated equipment functionality for a swift and dependable response to unforeseen circumstances.

The 'Endurance and Integration Testing' encompasses rigorous assessments of various rig components under high-load conditions.
